Mastermind

Mastermind
(Napalm Records - 2010)

I was really curious to listen to the new album of space rockers Monster Magnet and finally it's getting in stores. Mastermind is their 9th studio album, time to listen to the album and see what they have to offer. Will it be like their last album 4-Way Diablo? The opener Halluzination Bomb indicates what to expect, an 60's hippie sound adventure with stoner passages spiced up with some Krautrock elements. A heavy one is Bored With Sorcery, this one is more metal then the opener. The song will surprise you and shows that Monster Magnet didn't forget how to rock. Down-to-earth rock they present with Dig That Hole and Gods And Punks. Time to have some fun, the space mobile is waiting to take you into outer space with The Titan Who Cried Like A Baby which shines with it's great guitar parts. Time to ease off a bit, to give space to let thoughts travel far. Great tune. Before the album ends Monster Magnet show that they are still premier league rockers with tracks like When The Planes Fall From The Sky, Ghost Story and All Outta Nothin'. The ruckus of their early days is long gone, Monster Magnet 2010 present some willful rock tunes peppered up with black humor - and again they know how to please their fans. Personally I like the varying vocals of singer Dave Wyndorf. Don't hesitate to enter the spaceship with Monster Magnet to travel the sonic universe of the Americans.

God Says No

God Says No
(A&M Records - 2001)

There it is! The new album of Monster Magnet! After the release of the very successful album Powertrip they toured for more than one year all over the world and shared stages with bands like Aerosmith, Metallica, Marilyn Manson and Kid Rock.
A tour like that makes a band get more mature and get on well. The quintet of frontman Dave Wyndorf (vocals) delivered their 5th studio album now. On the disc are 12 songs plus a bonus track called Silver Future. The production is done by main song writer Wyndorf who got supported by Matt Hyde. The single Heads Explode with a video clip which attracks the male viewers on heavy rotation on the music TV stations they have a catchy tune which you won't get out of your mind easily. Monster Magnet have their own groove and that's essential, if you want to make it big and not just be part of the mainstream. Essential when you want to make it onto the highest level.
Ed Mundell and Phil Caivano creating an outstanding and individual sound with their guitars and Joe Calandra adds the bass lines. For the moving beat drummer Jon Kleiman is responsible. The voice of Dave Wyndorf is essential for the sound of Monster Magnet and is also the trademark for the band visually. This mixture seems to be what makes them successful and I have no doubts that God Says No is their next step onto their way to the 'Hall of fame'. They are on their way to enter the rock olymp. And they really rock! But that you can check out on your own, just listen to this album and go to see them when they will tour.
