The Acausal Mass

The Acausal Mass
(AFM Records - 2012)

Merrimack is a term that means depth of hell. The French black metal band has a dedicated attitude for playing a black and satanistic model of the traditional black metal of today. Most of their songs starts slow and build up an atmosphere of evil and complex metal music with both growls and clean vocals for the variation of the songs. The dominating instrument is the drums which gives the songs a very big doze of character, and the hard and heavy guitars do a great job to convince the listeners that this 4th album from Merrimack is a special experience to be part of. There are no complicated long song titles, everything is direct and precise like Gospel, Beati, Worms etc. And lets look at the songs, they are not so much different after all, Gospel is hard and doom metal mixed with the black attitude of the band, Beati goes for the brutal guitar sound with attacking vocals that holds the listeners attention.

A good album for metal fans who want complex and genuine black metal with elegance.
