Has anybody heard about a band called Evercry? I think most won't know them, including me. Now I have their first full-length album out, but meanwhile they changed the name to Marble Arch! The band was founded in 1994 and released 2 EPs in the 90's. Musically different bands / genres influenced the quintet and so their music can't be easily described to give you an idea. The have some gothic metal elements, but there are also influences of 80's gothic bands and LoFi indie pop acts. Singer Johan Wadelius has a powerful voice and adds sometimes an aggressive undertone. The beginning of The Inmost remind me of Paradise Lost at Draconian Times.... But that's not bad at all, coz it's also just one element of their sound. On other songs influences of The Cure are more obvious. One of my favorite tracks on the album is Not The Ones, but Fellow Sinner which is a more gothic pop song will catch you interest as well. Very atmospheric music which is more heavy gothic rock with some pop elements. Nothing for real metal heads, I guess, but for more open-minded fans it's worth to check out.
It won't be easy for the Gothenburg based band to find their audience, but they have a good chance to convince fans from gothic rock and metal. The album was recorded at the famous Astia Studio with producer Anssi Kippo. And while recording the album Lullacry singer Tanja Laino visited them and added some backing vocals. Just another little piece for their sound. Sometimes slow and melancholy, sometimes a little faster, but always full of emotions. But this isn't an album which will drag you down in your sorrow. This has a positive effect in all it's melancholy. Nice piece of work!
