Decoding The Soul

Decoding The Soul
(InsideOut Music - 2003)

This is the 3rd album of the American progsters. Their debut Chaos To Control was released in 1998 and 2001 they released Reality In Focus. Guitarist Rob Johnson presents a variety of prog metal. The band focuses on the song and they aren't trying to show off their individual talents. Even if they can show their skills. The band of Rob Johnson and singer Corey Brown (ex-Psycho Drama, now known as Section 16) recorded 3 killer tracks - Walk Through The Fire, New Dimension and To Find A Reason. But the other 7 tracks are on a high level, too. The songs have a lot power and at the same time can sound emotional and fragile. On Torn and Lies Within The Truth the guitar lines / riffing sounds a little like Fates Warning... At all I can say that fans of Dream Theater who think there latest release is too heavy, will find this album quite interesting. On other tracks there are parallels to Symphony X, Dead Soul Tribe, Poverty's No Crime and Queensrÿche. Especially some refrains have similarities to Geoff Tate's style. For fans who like the heavier side more, check out Dead In Their Tracks, a track with powerful double-bass drumming.

Reality In Focus

Reality In Focus
(InsideOut Music - 2001)

Reality In Focus is the second album of the American prog-metallers. Guitarist Rob Johnson founded the band about 4 years ago and soon teamed up with singer Corey Brown (Psycho Drama). It didn't take much time and they found musicians who shared their dream. About a year after the band was founded Magnitude 9 released their debut Chaos To Control. The reactions of fans and media been fantastic. Now 3 years later they return with Reality In Focus.
The nine songs show that the band grow together, got more mature... They offer high-class prog-metal, not too complex. The guitar riffing is more powerful and aggressive as usual for this genre. Also the cover version isn't a typical pick... They covered the Iron Maiden classic tune Flight Of The Icarus which is a cool progressive version of this tune.
Hopefully we don't have to wait again 3 years until Magnitude 9 release their next album!
Try: What My Eyes Have Seen, Afterlife, Lost Along The Way
