Some of you might remember their debut Lost Days Of Infancy which was released in late 1996. Afterwards the band played live a lot and worked on new material, tied to find their own identity. Now they are back with Symmetry! The German sextet offers progressive metal. Or shall I say progressive power metal? The title track is a great song which combines faster parts and slow, more mellow parts. The voice of singer Nuño Miguel de Barros Fernandes is the trademark of the band and due to his large vocal range he's able to add vocals which fit to the songs. The Mirror starts balladesque, then speed up a little. The breaks, the complex song structure keeps it interesting, it never gets boring. The vocals are catchy. Guitarist Gerd Krieger is always supporting the song, sometimes with screaming guitars, sometimes with his filigree play. The drums of Jochen Frei and the bass of Stephan Flicker build the powerful basis for the keyboard weaved floor of Marion Nießner. On Moonlight they get a little more straight. The track shows that they are able to play straight and that they can stand their ground in the power metal genre. With the Maze Of Emotions they have a balladesque, but powerful slow track recorded. So, there is everything from balladesque to fast tracks. The album was recorded at the Famous Kitchen Studios with producer Andy Horn who did a very good job.
The music of Anguish is interesting for fans of Fates Warning, Dream Theater and Symphony X, but also for power metal fans, coz they have power and play straight.
