Las Puertas Del Tiempo

Las Puertas Del Tiempo
(Karthago Records - 2012)

Big smiles and party atmosphere. The Spanish band Zarpa started in 1977, and has played on and off ever since, even took a long break in the '80s and '90s before starting up again in 2000. Now they release their 9th studio album, and their new record bears the Spanish title Las Puertas Del Tiempo. All lyrics are in Spanish, and served with a self-confidence as they give their bit on how to play classical heavy metal songs with lots of Spanish and almost South American atmosphere involved. Vocalist Vincete Feijooto is very charming in his singing performance and their guitar driven style of metal is very listenable. Esto Es Heavy Metal is a classical metal song with elements from Iron Maiden's sound from the '80s. Las Puertas Del Tiempo goes right into your ears with good and hard power metal played with finesse and convinces the fans of Zarpa's musical ability. Trovador starts with Spanish guitars and gets heavier and more catchy by the second. Na Hags La Guerra has the melodic line that gives their metal the right personality and goes in the hard and solid way. Chicas Del Metal is another power metal song with great guitar work that again makes you think about Iron Maiden and how they have inspired the Zarpa sound. This is a brilliant and different album, not everybody gets away with singing Spanish songs and Spanish classical guitar, but Zarpa makes a great victory with this new album.
