Those About To Die Salute You

Those About To Die Salute You
(self-released - 2007)

As the X indicates the Chilean band is part of the straight edge movement and they took it a bit further as they call their music vegan straight edge. Straight edge is a lifestyle / subculture which has its origin in the hardcore and punk scene.
The little I know about xPercancex is that they released a 3-track demo in 2005, followed by an album in 2006. Now they return with the EP Those About To Die Salute You.
Opening up with the title track straight into hammering beats and fast riffs. But after a break the guitar work is more traditional and seems to be influenced by NWoBHM - but combined with aggressiveness and hard beats - and varying speed. Vegan straight edge they play, so the lyrics here talk about humans slaughtering animals just to feed their hunger. Its about those who have to die to feed us. At the title track the vocals varied between screams and spoken words, at What Is Makes Us Enemies they add growls to their sound spectrum. The last track is My Shield Draw By The Edge and they push down the accelerator again. The vocals sound mean and build a sharp contract to the melodic riffing. But again a break leads into some slow, dragging part. No bad, and with a better and more powerful production they might have a chance....
