Evil's Back

Evil's Back
(AOR Heaven - 2011)

Oliver Weers is presenting his second album, it's called Evil's Back. In 2009 Mr Weers made the first step into the spotlight with Get Ready.
After a short intro Oliver Weers presents the title track, a heavy, riff-based tune and is spiced up with a catchy hook. And with All My Life an infectious hard rock tune follows. Perfect to get into Evil's Back!
Without You sounds like some late 80's stuff, not bad... The up-tempo rocker Hero is quite heavy, and surprises with a slow balladesque passage with keyboard and female vocals. Definitely a highlight of Evil's Back. With Beautiful Rain he offers an enchanting ballad, time to speed up again! It's time for the up-tempo rocker Much Too Much. Very catchy! The song is a powerful but emotional rocker. Pure fun. Unfortunately Fighting The Mountains can't keep the level, but with Devil's Chain he's back full force. A real heavy rock with mid-paced parts and a cool guitar leads. One of my favorites is the closer Rainbow Star, a quite heavy tune, a song you soon will sing along.
Oliver Weers presents an album full of hard / heavy rock songs, some really heavy, some more balladesque. It's his slightly raspy voice which gives the song their identity. If you liked the first album, Evil's Back won't disappoint you. If you are a fan of hard rock / melodic heavy metal with great vocals, then you should give Mr. Weers a chance to win you over. Check out: All My Life, Beautiful Rain, Demolition Man and Rainbow Star.

Get Ready

Get Ready
(Target Distribution - 2009)

Oliver Weers was born in Bielefeld (Germany), but lives in Copenhagen (Denmark) for awhile. For the recording of his debut album he hooked up Tommy Aldridge and Marco Mendoza - both known for their work with Whitesnake and Thin Lizzy - among others - and guitarist Søren Andersen. In his home country the album was released last year and in December 2008 they opened up for Whitesnake in Copenhagen. And the modern blues-based hard rock fits well to Whitesnake - Oliver Weers even sounds a bit like David Coverdale... They kick off with the catchy rocker Calling Out For You - great guitar solo by Søren Andersen! A bit heavier, but also a bit more 80's is Hands High. The songs are pure fun, especially for people who listened to this stuff in the 80's, coz even if the album has a modern production, so the songs are take you back in time. A balladesque tune is Will You Be Mine, a track which in the late 80's / early 90's would got into the heavy rotation at radio and TV stations! The following Crawling Back To You has a slight Oriental touch and is based on a heavy groove. A quite modern rocker which reminds me a bit of Faith No More... If you can imaging a FNM rock song with an Oriental touch, then you'll know what to expect. An up-tempo rocker with crunchy riffs is Angel. To cover Björk can be a challenge... Oliver Weers decided to do a hard rock version of Army Of Me, but I don't know the original well, so I can't compare them. Anyway, the song is a heavy rock with a dark atmosphere - don't remind me of Björk at all, but I might be wrong... Back to his own songs! The opening of Pleasure Train has a kind of AC/DC-riff, but the song becomes a smooth hard rocker with a catchy hook. The album ends with the title track - another catchy rocker. If you don't expect some new sounds, and if you like hard rock tunes with a great hook, then check out Get Ready!
