Lives
(Century Media - 2000)

Great achievement anyway, 9 studio albums in 15 years! But if you take a closer look, you see that there is something missing! Right, a live album, coz there isn't any band who can ban the live power and atmosphere 100% onto a studio release. Even after all this years in the business they never made a live album, only some live tracks here and there. Now it was time to change this. But when and where to record such a milestone in a band career? To record every show on tour is to expensive, to record just one show is risky. So they made a compromise and I think they were right. They decided to focus on a club show they did at the New Yorker CBGB's. This venue has a cult status, not just in the punk scene, it's one of the most famous clubs on East Coast. Great atmosphere, I already experienced it! As counterpart they placed stuff from their show at the Dynamo open-air where they played in front of thousands.
So they create a compilation of 10 songs which hopefully will fulfill the expectations of the die-hard fans. To complete the release they added a cover version. A track from their all-time faves Venom and they chose In League With Satan which finished quite a few shows of the Canadians. Everybody who is longing for a live album of the Canadian thrashers will be satisfied. If you can't believe that they are so powerful live or who wants to be part of a live show, should get a ticket for the coming tour in Europe. Voivod will tour with Therion who will again work with choirs and classical instruments. Opener on that tout will be the youngsters of Flowing Tears. So, get up and I'll see you in front of the stage!

After 15 years in the business there is not very much to tell about Voivod... Everyone knows this band. They released 9 studio albums during the years, now it's time for a live one! Lives is recorded at New York's famous CBGB's and at the Dynamo open-air. The trio choose 10 tracks to review their career live and end the CD like their live shows with Venom's In League With Satan. To talk about the live shows of Voivod would mean to carry coals to Newcastle! The Canadians offer pure energy! Tracks like Nuclear War or Project X are presented beside Voivod give an idea how the band sounds life, but can never ever bring the magic of their shows!
