Virgo

Virgo
(Steamhammer - 2001)

That musicians can have a large musical variety and they might change a lot, shows this album. It's the first release of Virgo and it's self-titled. The main members of Virgo are singer André Matos (he founded the Brazilian band Angra in the early 90's) and Sascha Paeth (for years been related to the German metal band Heaven's Gate and known for his productions of bands like Angra, Rhapsody and Kamelot).
Musically the duo gets supported by keyboarder Miro, drummer Robert Hunecke-Rizzo and bassist Olaf Reitmeier. The album was recorded in Northern Germany with special recording equipment. The song Take Me Home features a 18 man orchestra and on River a gospel choir took part, at all a great album which offers 11 tracks. As a bonus they put the video clip of Baby Doll (live version) on the album. Actually the music of Virgo has not much to do with the heavy metal past of the founding members, but it's a high class rock album which lives from the unique voice of André Matos in combination with the other musicians. The songs have a great potential which thrill the listeners. Some have classic influences and make the listener a little sentimental and thoughtful (e.g. No Need To Have An Answer). And for late 2001 they plan an extended tour and if they can bring this to the stage on the same high quality level... Then it'll be a special event!
