Act Of Grace

Act Of Grace
(Mystic Production - 2010)

The Polish band Virgin Snatch was founded in 2001 in Kraków by singer Zielony, guitarist Grysik and drummer Jacko, but the line-up shaped up in 2003 incl. members of Death Sea and Anal Stench. The band been through some changes, recorded 3 album and played shows in Poland and the neighboring countries. In 2008 the album Act Of Grace was released in their home country, and is now published outside Poland.
Musically Virgin Snatch are presenting thrash metal spiced up with some other elements like clean vocals which gives their technical thrash a melodic edge. Shouter Zielony handles the clean vocals and the growls, and he's doing very well! The guitar play of Grysik and Jacek Hiro shows reminiscences to Nevermore... But there are also parallels to Testament. The songs are all quite good, but too similar. They stick too much to their thrash metal influences and their song writing scheme... They show a different facet at Daniel The Jack, the whiskey song is fun and they leave the critical and political lyrics behind. It's catchy and perfect to sing along live - and offers some slower passages which makes the song stick out. The closer is called It's Time, the song is dedicated to Vitek Kieltyka, the Decapitated drummer was killed in an accident on tour. The ballad It's Time is touching, coz it's very personal and so Vitek's brother Wacek 'Vogg' Kieltyka plays the solo. Well done!
The ballad shows that Virgin Snatch have much more to offer, they should dare to experiment. They should dare to leave the thrash metal genre behind and should try to create something new. They do have the talent to do it.
At the moment there are a lot thrash bands back in action and newcomers seems to pop up every day. It's difficult to get attention by fans and media. Virgin Snatch is musically very good, but they haven't developed their own identity and the songs are too much alike. Anyway, if you like thrash metal á la Testament and technical play á la Nevermore, then you should check out Act Of Grace. And perhaps next time they surprise us with something more unique...
