Sulphurblooded

Sulphurblooded
(Massacre Records - 2010)

Unadulterated face-melting brutality is what this German blackened death metal outfit offer up on this, their fifth full-length album in seven years.
Kicking off with the title track, Sulphurblooded, the band start as they mean to go on with frenetic, squealing guitars that will have your face dripping from your skull. It is immediately evident that these guys take their black metal influences from the fast and furious style of Marduk and Gorgoroth, but mix in some good old German thrash.
As is the case with a lot of the albums in this sub-genre there is very little variation. This is all-out, pedal-to-the-metal, uncompromising blackened thrash that takes no prisoners. However, the songs, without exception, all catch your ear and draw you in thanks to the great sound, interesting riffs and screeching guitars.
Over the sonic assault and battery of the guitars, drums and bass is vocalist Blaspherion raucous, hoarse growl similar in execution to the late Jon Nödtveidt (Dissection). He has a voice that sounds as if the embodiment of the world's anger and hatred is emitting from his throat.
Definitely a band that fans of Impiety, Infernal War and Adorior should check out if they haven't already. One of the finer releases in this genre this year!

Sulphurblooded

Sulphurblooded
(Massacre Records - 2010)

This is the 5th album of Unlight, a band from Southern Germany, who get better with every album. With Sulphurblooded they stick to their roots and present melodic, aggressive black metal with a lot of thrash elements and a dash death metal. Their songwriting is even stronger, they embedded razor-sharp thrash riffs into their black metal sound in a homogenous way. They also perfectionized their range of blast beats and majestic mid-paced anthems. The opener Sulphurblooded is a great example for their high class black metal blast attacks which got ennobled by thrashy riffing. You'll find the same mix at Sound Forth The Trumpets, Pale Rider - Pale Horse and By The Seventh Spell - A Blackthrash Blasphemy. Unlight offering brutal sounds, but also have melodic elements incorporated in their mix. The delicate guitar play reminds me of Dissection and gives the songs something special. Make them more memorable. The blast attacks make you think of Marduk while Dark Funeral have been inspiration for their mid-paced tracks Dead All Things Will Be (Part I) and Dead All Things Will Be (Part II). While the hyper-fast tracks with German lyrics - Invictus and Deine Waffen zu meinen Füßen - will remind you of Belphegor. All wrapped up in a powerful, transparent sound, so nothing to complain about - just if you prefer your black metal with a true underground garage sound, then you won't like it. Unlight prefer to offer high quality and so the trio did improve on all levels and deliver their best album so far. And believe me, their previous released already were quality releases. With Sulphurblooded Unlight is ready to enter the premier league of German black metal, and they deserve it!
