The Monolith Deathcult

Every concert deserves to be opened by the Danish death metal band The Absent. This kind of energy inspires people to go completely crazy and bringing the sweat level totally out of control, and this is after just a few minutes of playing their brutal music, growls, stage show and much more. The sound quality at The Rock venue was at its best, so the crowd had a real good experience from the Danish band. The Absent has a stated code of fuck all attitude, heavy drinking, and when you are finished drinking, you just start again. Good death metal songs, good atmosphere, and to round everything off perfectly they closed their show with an earsplitting new song called Wasted Drunk, just to underline what they stand for, if someone wasn't sure about it.

Darknote from Iceland was a more anonymous band, as they performed their death metal songs in a shy and quiet way. Their musical ideas are good however, but they lacked the ability to really catch the crowd. The vocalist Diddi Edvards was almost like he was in another world as he couldn't create the inspiring atmosphere in Copenhagen. It was a shame, because I am convinced that they could do much better than their show at The Rock.
Darknote has released a EP called Walk Into Your Nightmare, and maybe that could take them a bit further in the future, but their show in Copenhagen was an act of non-sweating standing-still display.

Atrum has just won a competition in Iceland as best metal band, and from what they showed in Copenhagen anyone can hardly disagree in the outcome from that musical competition. Atrum is focused on death metal, but they spread widely over others kinds of music such as dark and highly explosive power metal, and it's fully deserved that Atrum goes on stage in August at the Wacken Open Air festival in Germany. Vocalist and guitarist Sigurdur led his men in an outstanding metal performance of total control, almost laid back and arrogant at times, but still with a wry smile on their faces as they raced through brutal metal songs that can appeal to many kinds of metal lovers. In my view the best of the four concerts this evening.

The Monolith Deathcult is the most experienced band to perform this evening, they have 3 albums out already, and they got the honor to headline the metal evening in Copenhagen. Brutality, death metal, furious attitude is the keyword for the Dutch quintet. A dark sound of very competent heavy metal spluttered out through the ribs from them in their march to the metal acres. Somehow the crowd did not respond to them, and that slowed down their tempo a little bit, but still there is no doubt that The Monolith Deathcult are at a very high death metal level in Europe. They did not go totally berserk the way The Absent did earlier in the evening, but still the concert from the Dutch high flyers was to be remembered for their energy and great attitude.
