If You Really Want

If You Really Want
(High Roller Records - 2011)

High Roller Records has released an album with the band Truffle who do songs of an older date to say the least. The title track If You Really Want is from 1979 and it is inevitable that the sound is from late 70's. And there is a lot of inspiration from bands such as Black Sabbath. Funny enough the name Truffle is associated with mushrooms, just to stay tuned to drugs from that time. Most of the 7 songs are slow and a little boring, but also spiced up with good guitars in the first song Thunderbird, slow it might be and with a chorus: We got a bird, a bird that can fly, a thunderbird in the sky - and that chorus is repeated numerous times throughout the song. Streetfighter is also in the old school style with good and more modern metallic guitar riffs. Round Tower is a melodic slow song that could stand as a trademark for their music with a nice content of 70's and early 80's metal rock in it. If You Really Want is the last track on the album as it has a moving rhythm contributing with a more modern style to give the album some meaning here in 2011. Frankly I don't really know why such an album is released now, because the sound is not up to date and would probably mostly appeal to fans of 70's rock'n'roll, mushroom rock with lots of power.
