Singer and bassist Titus Tommy Gunn is known for his work with Acid Drinkers, after 2 decades he recorded albums and played countless shows with Acid Drinkers. Now he felt it was time to start a solo career. He wanted to play Motörhead-influenced heavy rock and found guitarist Lemmy (Turbo) and drummer Viking (Heavy Weight). The opening track The Bitch Is (Still) Dead shows what to expect - and reminiscences to Motörhead, Ozzy Osbourne, Iron Maiden and Lemmy adds some shredding elements. At Varan's 10 they add a dash of punk, but there are other ingredients which were added to the mix. At The Awakening they slow down for awhile and add some swing to the heavy rock. Cool idea! At Scarass I'm not sure what Titus had in mind... Slowly they kick off Grand+Snow+Gorilla, but then they head into a fast rocker. Lemmy's guitar sound is shrill, especially as the bass riff is very dominating at this CD. Back to the opening theme to end the song. At One Scotch Please they mix in a dash of Scottish folk - for a moment. Again the guitar sounds shrill and at least for me makes the song less enjoyable. Big Brutal Swings is fun, a dirty heavy rocker.
Well, the album has its moments, but then there are parts where you just wonder. The shrill guitar sound is sometimes quite annoying. Titus and his mates show that you can play heavy rock'n'roll without sticking to simple structures, but at times they are overdoing it. I hope they find the right balance next time and that the guitar sound changes. Anyway, not a waste of time listening to this album, but I doubt that they'll reach a large number of fans... Even if this one is a good choice to party to and live it might be a lot better...
