Usually if you think of Polish bands, you'll think of brutal death metal, but nowadays we get more from Poland then brutal death metal... e.g Votum or Black River. Now Thy Disease present their 5th album and try to reach more fans outside their home country. The band was founded in 1999 in Krakow and only 2 years later signed a 3-album-deal with Metal Kind Productions. A lot happened since their debut Devilish Act Of Creation was released in 2001. These days Thy Disease combine heavy death metal-like riffs and deep growls with electronic sounds. But at Code Red they show that this isn't all they have to offer, so you'll find a very catchy passage with clean vocals. Kinda technical death metal meets industrial... With Nightmare Scenario they head more into EBM for a moment, then the death metal elements are back and a heavy riffs force them ahead. I guess for death metal purists this is a nightmare scenario! But for open-minded metal fans Thy Disease offer an interesting genre mix. Heavy riffs lead you into Freedom For Anshur-ZA, but then they storm off in a death metal manner. Just to head into a more melodic passage with clean vocals. A sonic roller coaster ride - and a fascinating one.
Beside 10 original songs they offer two cover versions - Depeche Mode's Sinner In Me and Madonna's Frozen. Both versions are quite interesting, but personally I prefer Frozen, Thy Disease managed to keep the atmosphere of the song and make sound heavy at a time. The growls are partly accompanied by female vocals. Cool one!
This album is challenging the listener, coz you never really know what to expect. The Polish foursome know how to surprise the listener. Thy Disease is pursuing their own way, not everybody will follow them, but you should show them respect for trying something new.
