The Danish band The Kandidate - formerly The Downwards Candidate - lost their singer just prior to the recordings of their new album and so album producer Jacob Bredahl took over the job. Some might remember him from his days with Hatesphere and Last Mile. What a fortunate coincidence to have a producer who is also a great shouter and musically the guy fits in perfectly. Even if Hatesphere and The Kandidate have something in common, they aren't copycats! Their sound is more dirty... Death'n'Roll á la Entombed and The Crow. The Kandidate mix their old school sound with some hardcore and thrash, but there are also some modern influences. The Danish manage well to combine old and new sounds. The songs are mainly fast and offer blast attacks as well as some groove elements. Bredahl gives 100%, he seems to explode - and add some melodic vocals here and there. The production is powerful and mangy, the guitars sound old school - reminding me of death metal acts like Entombed, Dismember and Grave -, but is also crystal clear with the heavy punch like the ones of Hatesphere and Hatebreed's albums.
