Spiral Of Fear

Spiral Of Fear
(Ice Warrior Records - 2012)

The experienced Portuguese band Tarantula has very much to offer on their new album, Spiral Of Fear, the 8th CD from them to this date. Jorge Marques still handles the vocals with a convincing style of singing, and it is often Marques who gives the songs the final metal touch. Dark Age is such a song, hard metal with good creativity and then this hammer voice from Jorge Marques. Open Your Eyes and Shadows are two songs which are melodic in the structure, but not letting completely go for the hit, shame because they have some really good guitar sound included in those songs. Among Us has the power to break the glass with a melodic power metal hymn that can compete with the best. The title song Spiral Of Fear has a lot of good metal ideas with great sublime guitar work, this is one of the best songs of the album. Vultures is also in the most powerful end of the scale from Tarantula. Here the metal is hard and will be a hit among the lovers of power metal. It's great that Tarantula's creativity is still intact after more than 30 years in the business.

Dream Maker

Dream Maker
(AFM Records - 2001)

Even if this is the second release of Tarantula which is a Portuguese band signed to AFM Records. But still there are not so many people who know the band. Anyway, the band of front man Jorge Marques do melodic metal. There are several bands which inspired the Portuguese, but that's just an element added to their sound. The variety reaches from up-tempo songs like Dream Maker to heavy rockers like A New Horizon and Changes Coming to songs with a progressive touch like Winds Of No Return. If you can afford to buy one more CD and if you like underground bands, you should check out this Portuguese melodic metal band!
