Satanic Tyrant Werwolf - Sep. 2nd 2010 (by email)

Satanic Warmaster recently unleashed their first full length since 2005 on an unsuspecting world. I put some questions to the mastermind Satanic Tyrant Werwolf...

Thank you for taking the time to answer these questions. Are you happy with Nachzehrer? Did you approach this recording any differently to the album you've released in the past?

Nachzehrer was something I wanted to come into being, so yes, I am 'happy'. I sought a more cruel and dismal sound an musical expression and found a gate to reach it.

What do you think of the reaction to Nachzehrer from critics and fans?

Irrelevant. I created Nachzehrer initially for myself. If someone else finds something in it, then it is fine by me.

Utug-Hul is completely different to anything else on Nachzehrer. What was the inspiration behind this one?

The initial inspiration was to invoke a perfect contrast to the Black Metal storm that leads to this song, and to consecrate the ending of the album.

Can you pick a favorite Satanic Warmaster release or are they all just as important to you?

I think I am not the right person to pick favorites out of my own deeds.

If you had to describe Satanic Warmaster's music to someone who had never heard it before, what would you say to them?

It's like breaking the neck from a kitten, feeding the kitten to a hog, stabbing the hog with amphetamine and letting it loose in a mosque.

What are your plans for touring? Are you looking forward to playing the new songs live?

We haven't toured so far and don't know if we ever will. We will perform this winter at the Nidrosian Black Mass in Trondheim, Norway.

Which bands got you into metal and black metal in particular?

I got into metal through 80s heavy metal bands, and into Black Metal through bands like Beherit, Necromantia, Mayhem, Darkthrone, etc.

Your 2008 tour with Absurd and Der Stürmer came under a lot of criticism due to alleged National-Socialist sympathies. Has this had any negative impact on Satanic Warmaster's popularity?

No, this has only had positive impact. All the left-wing moralist Jesus-loving Christians did a huge favor for Black Metal in Finland with their weeping, and caused a lot of innocent children to become interested in Black Metal.

What are your views on the big names of black metal: Emperor, Darkthrone, Satyricon, Immortal, Dimmu Borgir and Mayhem?

Some of my all-time favorite albums are Emperor, In The Nightside Eclipse, A Blaze In The Northern Sky, Under A Funeral Moon, Transilvanian Hunger, Panzerfaust, Total Death, Dark Medieval Times, The Shadowthrone, Nemesis Divina, Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism, Pure Holocaust, Battles In the North, For All Tid, Stormblåst, Deathcrush and De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas. What they did more recently hasn't impressed me.

Some of your beliefs and ideals, as put across in your music and in previous interviews etc, are quite extreme in comparison to the social norm. What were the circumstances that led to you choosing these beliefs and ideals?

There should be no choices made on what you believe in, see to be true and know is worth the fight. I sought my answers for years and years, and still do, and what I believe in and the powers that flow through me are a part of me, and this has never been anything that the 'social norm' or 'moral' would have a say in.

I've noticed many people on internet forums and so on making derogatory comments about you personally and Satanic Warmaster as a band more so than any other band I can think of. Does this ever bother you? Have you ever been attacked in person due to your music or beliefs?

It only proves one thing: I have actually done something right to get real reactions from people, real anguish, hatred, loathing, fear, jealousy... When they give in to my being in such an intensive manner, it is a great source of strength for me. There have been many attempts to attack me.

Last year the Ukrainian band Kroda was attacked by members of AntiFa due to the band member's right wing political beliefs. What are your thoughts about this?

I really have no thoughts about it, but I guess it's great to be 'right' and beat up those who are 'wrong'.

Thanks again for taking the time to answer these questions. Anything you would like to add?

Nachzehrer is out now through Werewolf Records / Northern Heritage and if you fancy seeing Satanic Warmaster live it looks as if you'll have to make the journey to Trondheim... probably be worth it though!
