Time Traders

Peter Green Splinter Group - Time Traders
(Blue Storm Music - 2002)

The band started in 1996 as a quartet and at that days Green and Watson were joined by Cozy Powell and Neil Murray. These days the Splinter Group is Peter Green, Nigel Watson, Roger Cotton, Pete Stroud and Larry Tolfree.
Time Traders is the latest release of Peter Green, a member of the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame and shows that blues can sound modern. Tracks like Real World you might hear on the radio. The quintet is mixing elements of different genres with their blues which is obvious on tracks like Running After You and Wild Dogs. One of my favorites it Lies which has a special magic for me, even if it's a simple structured song... For certain songs the Splinter Group got joined e.g. from Derek Nash on saxophone and Sid Gauld on trumpet and flugelhorn. On Underway guitarist Snowey White joined the quintet for a mellow instrumental. Underway is also not pure blues, it has elements of world music, but in a jazzy style... Hope you get me!?!
The last track of the album is Uganda Woman where Green mixed African ethnical music with blues and the vocals as well as the backing vocals, the choir are typical for African music. They are crossing boarders and probably open up the mind of some listeners...
