Lost In Hell

Lost In Hell
(Pure Steel Records - 2012)

Sometimes a band makes a new CD which has music on it that could very well have been released in the 90's. This is the case with the new album from Seasons Of The Wolf and others refer to it as classic heavy metal, but I will categorize it as alternative metal, because they lean so close to the 70's and 80's rock legends from Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath that it is difficult to split them apart. The vocalist Wes Waddell makes his best to sound as Ozzy Osborne, and you have to keep in mind that Seasons Of The Wolf was most active in the 90's and have slowed down in the recent years.

Their new album Lost In Hell is filled with interesting songs that are both classic and demon like as if they were from Ozzy history, but also accurate in nowadays powerful metal so the mix has been made with success in my view.

Communion is an example of 70's rhythm and a steady pressure in the rock process where the inspiration from Black Sabbath is very clear. Vengeance goes for the psychedelic but yet aggressive look as to give it a more modern sound. Abandoned City is also 80's metal but with a rhythm and creation so special that you have to explore it yourself, it's interesting but very much different. One Land One King is another great and well-composed song with psychedelic metal still with Ozzy hanging around in the background of their brains.

Witchfinder is the best song as I see it on the Lost In Hell album, soft and demonizing and with a great power to get some tempo in it as well. So it doesn't matter if Seasons Of The Wolf has been inactive for a long time, they can still come to town with new and modern music packed in old and used wrappings. Wes Waddell's voice gives the album a very special quality.
