Sturm aufs Paradies

Sturm aufs Paradies
(Napalm Records - 2011)

I guess that Saltatio Mortis is a band that some people smiles at when they think about them, crazy Germans or likewise thoughts. But they have made very much music in the last 10 years, almost a new album every year and they march on in a way that they like. All their music is in the German language and the musical idea of their songs is heavy and medieval rock music played with flute, bagpipe and their style could be compared to what Alestorm are doing. 13 new songs are on this new album, soft melodic and yet hard rock and folk rock in a very good mix. I find the songs Hochzeitstanz, Sündenfall, Spiel mit dem Feuer to be the best on their new record, but all the songs has a good quality about them. Saltatio Mortis is a band who have a big and faithful crowd at their concerts and no-one can have any doubts about their dedication to the music.

Manufactum II

Manufactum II
(Napalm Records - 2010)

Now 5 years after the release of their live album Manufactum Saltatio Mortis deliver Manufactum II. A lot happened to Saltatio Mortis between the 2 live albums. With their last album Wer Wind sät they had their breakthrough and almost every show they played was sold out. Okay, not everybody will be pleased, some would have preferred a rock album instead of this acoustic live album. Anyway, the fans will love it, coz on Manufactum II you'll find different songs then on their first acoustic album. Beside Merseburger Zaubersprüche and Palästinalied you'll find only new songs on this one.
You'll find rockers like Prometheus and Spielmannsschwur on the album as well as classics like Evve Gratum and Douce Dame Jolie. They also managed to capture the atmosphere and perhaps they should have documented this visually and do a DVD... Would have been nice. The band delivered a great performance and it's great to see the interaction between singer Alea and the audience. He is a real entertainer which he shows every time he is on stage - and you can hear this at Manufactum II. Every fan of the band should get a copy, coz this one brings the mediaeval atmosphere to your home - on a high level. Perhaps the band should consider to record a DVD next time, coz these events are always something special. I recommend this album to all genre fans!
