For You

For You
(UlfTone Music - 2002)

When I heard that Jack Russell left Great White which meant the end of the band I was shocked, coz I listened to their music since their debut album. And so it's good to have Jack Russell back with a solo album which is released now under the name For You. For his first album after Great White he gathered some big names, great musicians who he let take influence to make an even better album. You want to know who was involved? Okay, here are the involved musicians: Bob Kulick (guitars; Kiss, Meat Loaf, Lou Reed), Billy Sherwood (guitars; Paul Rodgers, Muddy Waters, Yes), Tony Levin (bass; John Lennon, Peter Gabriel, Pink Floyd, King Crimson), Vinnie Colaiuta (drums; Sting Frank Zappa, Stevie Nicks) and Michael Sherwood (keyboards; Air Supply). The album shows Jack Russell from a more mellow side, singing ballads which he always enjoyed. But a track like Don't Know Why could have been on a Great White album as well. But the track Always which starts with an acoustic guitar or the title track which is based on a piano line shows the more emotional Jack Russell. This is a rock album and partly can be called pop, but to quote Kulick "pop, but with fangs". Or like Jack said: "Pop just means popular - and there's nothing wrong with being popular!" If you liked Great White than you should check this out! But this album is interesting for all fans of hard rock and bluesy rock. Sure, I could go more into detail about the songs, but the best way is to listen to it on your own!
