Thunderblaze

Thunderblaze
(Regain Records - 2002)

Another Swedish band and again no nobodies! Two members - Joel Linder (drums) and Jonas Blum (vocals) - are known from Majestic and guitarist Pete Espinoza comes from Nasty Idols. Beside that there are on bass Cody Iook, on keyboards Thomas Blum and on the second guitar Lasse Bomquist.
The opening track is the title track Thunderblaze which is a powerful heavy metal track with huge backings and a catchy vocal line. The band plays metal in the tradition of the NWoBHM, but they sound modern and add other influences as well. Thunderblaze is the 2nd album of the Swedish sextet and actually I wonder why I haven't heard of them before! But due to the mass of releases the chance to miss a good one is quite big. Vengeance Or Dark Retribution is more a melodic power metal song, but the vocals of Jonas Blum gives the song a hard rock touch, coz his rough, bluesy voice is more like the ones of hard rock singers like Eric Martin (Mr. Big) and Ronnie Atkins (Pretty Maids). Anyway, the six-piece presents themselves very well and with a variety of different songs, but they all fit together. One of my favorites is the mid-tempo one The Conqueror, another on is Chains Of Love which has a balladesque touch. Raging Storms is a power ballad, but really heavy... Remind me of some late 80's heavy tune, but can't tell which one. At the end they speed up a little and the last track Bulletspeed has with party distorted vocals a more modern touch and due to the breaks and changes a slightly progressive touch as well. Well done!
