The Dutch band Orphanage are around for years. Driven is their 4th album and it took them 4 years to release this album. At the moment bands like Within Temptation and Nightwish are very successful and so some might wonder why they don't jump on the bandwagon. Especially because guitarist Guus Eikens co-wrote songs for the successful Mother Earth album of Within Temptation. As other bands they work with two singers - the 'angel' Rosan van der Aa and the 'beast' George Oosthoek, but Oosthoek isn't grunting, he adds growls which can be understood. Also they are more metal then similar bands. Miss van der Aa sings - in comparison with Nightwish's Tarja - not so opera-like. Her voice is not so high which makes it in my opinion warmer and more beautiful. What I miss is a really catch song... an anthem. The track The Sign is gives a good impression. Sometimes an album needs time to grow, but still there isn't a smash hit on this one. Better then many other bands of this genre, but if they want to keep up with the scene, then they shouldn't wait years to release a follow-up and they should take care that there is at least one catchy tune to catch the interest. Not bad, but also not a killer album...
