Pandemonium

Pandemonium
(Sonic Attack - 2013)

There aren't many bands from France in the metal world, but Operadyse are out to add their name to the map. The band of guitarist Damien Marco was founded back in 2006 and they released an EP Hope Era Dies called in 2009. Now they joined forces with Sonic Attack Records and present Pandemonium.

The intro Rise and the following Celestial Sword show their love for symphonic power metal and the songs show their appreciation of Kamelot, Rhapsody Of Fire, Dragonforce and Helloween (Keeper's era). Singer Franck Garica is doing a decent job, but some parts show similarities to Michael Kiske and he doesn't get close to Kiske's level. Celestial Sword is off the EP, if it's different to the EP version? I have no clue. Sorry.

The following songs aren't offering a lot variety, the songs are up-tempo, the guitar partly drowns in the massive keyboard sounds. At The Path they give a hint of what Operadyse could sound, if the ease off a bit and experiment. The female vocals added are a good idea, but personally I don't like the voice... Fairies Secret Garden is also from the EP and the opening passage is mid-paced with a bombastic edge - and it works well. But soon they storm off again, at least they offer some twists and turns. A surprise is Arkanya, another tune where the female singer joins in and the slow opening passage gives an idea about the potential of the band, if they would leave the chosen path. Nevermore is also a tune with tempi changes and so it turns out that the second half of the album is the stronger one. The closer Frozen is a ballad which starts with keyboard and female vocals... But the song miss some magic.

Well, the album... I have mixed feelings about it. There are some good songs, but a lot of average stuff which might get boring after a little while, coz the songs are too much the same. Check out Operadyse and make up your mind.
