Landon is a band from the US and actually I don't know much about them. Front girl Landon Dunning is joined by 3 guys - Stefan on drums, Bubba on bass and Sean on guitars.
They open up with Never Enough which got counted in, then slowly the band sets in and you hear Landon's warm and powerful voice. Musically the song is based in alternative rock - with a slight pop appeal. Landon reminds me a bit of Gwen Stefani in her early days.... The following Only 20 has a modern touch with the effect on Landon's voice. As at the opening track they vary during the song and the four-some can surprise you with new facets. Towards the end of the song bassist Bubba steps up front and takes over the lead. The songs sound fresh, authentic and wild. With First To Come In Last they slow down a bit and get balladesque, but there are also some heavy parts with crunchy guitar riffs. Emotional vocals on top. Dirty rock with groove comes over you when you listen to What You Wanted. The song is hooking you up immediately. One of my favorites on One Woman Army! Another one is Ghost which is a slow one... A bit dreamy and lascivious. The title track is a melancholy tune with a intriguing vocal line. One Woman Army is an emotional song where Miss Landon sounds vulnerable and partly fragile. But later you can feel the anger which build up - and she let it out.
The more electronic sounds you get on Dirty Virgin aren't my cup of tea, but I think the song would really rock in a more rock-based version without the electronic sounds...Anyway, One Woman Army offers 15 rock tracks with different elements and emotional vocals. Fans of Garbage should check Landon out, but also the ones who would like a rock version of Avril Lavigne and Gwen Stefani. I recommend: Ms Jones, What You Wanted, Only 20 and Ghost.
