Sweet Lick Of Fire

Sweet Lick Of Fire
(Sanctuary - 2001)

It took them 2 years to release the follow-up of the highly acclaimed debut Consider This..., but now the British quintet is back! For me the new album took a few more spins to discover. On Sweet Lick Of Fire the band present their Kick rock, but the harder tracks like Kaleidoscopic Eyes are harder than equal songs on the debut. The lighter songs are a little lighter, poppier than on their first release. Songs like Painless could be heard on radio. Call this hard rocking pop or poppy rock, whatever, this is music you can listen to in every mood. To pick songs which represent the album ain't easy. The title track is definitely one of the strongest rockers and Painless represent their smoother side. With singer Nick Workman they have a charismatic singer who is as good as Joe Elliot (Def Leppard), Bon Jovi and Billy Idol to quote names dropped by different journalists. But Nick Wortman has his own identity and isn't copy any of these. Some might missed a larger variety on their debut, here it is! The band of the Jones brothers made a step forward without losing their own identity. Not necessary to talk about their abilities, everybody in this band is very talented and so there is nothing to complain. Their next album will show if they can become the next big name in rock...

Consider This....

Consider This....
(Beast Records - 1999)

I didn't knew what to expect when I first got this album which shows a baby weight-lifting, but from the first second this band made me addicted!
The opener Up Close & Personal made me swing and sing along! Good time rock, nothing new but with a special touch. Even if they slow down a little with the next track, Children Of The Sun is a slow, but rocking and still emotional tune. They use effects on the vocals partly and so catch the interest of the listener. The British quartet are not presenting pure rock, their compositions have a poppy touch. Even if the title track is a rock tune which fit to big names like BON JOVI as well, they have already found their own identity.
A track like Let's Make Love Tonight sneaks into your mind and keep spinning. A catchy song with deals which a situation everybody knows. But they don't offer just love songs! Even if Breathless is a beautiful love song, a kind of power ballad.
Starting with a roaring motor cycle the track Another Crazy Summer Night is really rocking in the vain of Bryan Adams, Bruce Springsteen and other rockers.
This is my personal hit album of the summer 1999! Check it out and buy!
