The Finnish groove metal outfit In Progress started in 2006, but went through line-up changes and took time to grow. In 2012 they took the task more seriously and started working on this EP. Surgery is their step into the limelight.
They kick off with I Am, a groove metal monster with tribal elements, growls and some grunts.
Even more tribal sounds you get at Enemy. This reminds me a bit of a melange of old Sepultura, Total Devastation and In Flames. Flatline is a 2+ minute long instrumental which works like an intro for Surgery. The slower pace makes it more intense and Surgery has a groove metal hymn character towards the end. Personally I find the last two tracks more interesting than the first 3 tracks, but that's just a matter of taste.
It will be interesting to see what they can offer with their full-length debut in 2014.
