The Mirror's Truth

The Mirror's Truth
(Nuclear Blast - 2008)

With The Mirror's Truth Swedish quintet In Flames give a first impression of their coming album A Sense Of Purpose. The Mirror's Truth is riff-based, but quite melodic. More melodic then in the past and Anders' vocals are less aggressive. Without the razor-sharp riffing and the fast drum beats this would be more a power metal tune. And somehow they cross with this catchy track the borders to power metal... Some long-time fans will find this track too commercial, I bet...
With Eraser and Tilt they added 2 non-album tracks to this single. Eraser is a fast neck breaker and brings back the ferocity, but also has some melodic hook. Great guitar work at Tilt as well as some unusual drum pattern. If the opening track is an indicator for the albums sound, then this track would have fit to the album as well. The tune Abnegation some might know from the Viva La Bands Vol. 2 compilation. This one is a bit more aggressive, but has a rather melodic refrain. The song will hook you up!
If this single really shows what path the Swedish chose, I can't tell yet, but if this is the direction they are heading with the album then the band leaves melodic death metal fields behind and is entering now the field of modern / power metal. And no all their fans will welcome this! But I'm curious to hear the new album!

Reroute To Remain

Reroute To Remain
(Nuclear Blast - 2007)

The Swedish band In Flames is already one of the leading melodic death metal bands and known by every death metal fan. With Reroute To Remain they present their latest release. There are similarities to their great Clayman album, but there are new sounds as well. Electronical sounds give the music a more modern touch and the song structures are more complex these days. I guess that fans from the early days will have a problem with the new In Flames sound. The days of Colony are over! So, the fans of the 'old' albums, check the album out first! Don't buy it just because it's In Flames. The music is powerful and offers a large variety of sounds and so open-minded fans of melodic death metal, go and check this one out!

The Jester Race

The Jester Race
(Nuclear Blast - 1996)

Death metal from the Swedish metropolis Gothenburg is what In Flames present in an emotional way. The second album of the Swedish offers 10 songs with a large band-width and proof that death metal can be played in many different ways. With their new shouter Anders Fridén (ex-Dark Tranquillity) In Flames will go on tour in early 1997 in Europe. There they will show their high potential and their innovative compositions live. So, don't miss In Flames on tour!
