Tales For Bad Girls

Tales For Bad Girls
(Armageddon Music - 2008)

This is my first contact with the Spanich gothic outfit Forever Slave. It's not far-fetched that the band is trying to jump on the bandwagon and that their target group are the fans of Within Temptation, Nightwish, Xandria and similar bands.
The opening track Dickhead! shows that the guys know how to play metal, but the production takes off the edge and it sounds like so many other bands. Lady Angellyca is more based in dark pop then in gothic metal. And even if I like Liv Kristin Espaenas Krull and Lady Angellyca sounds a bit like her, so I miss the emotions Liv Kristin shows. Not to mention that Lady Angellyca don't even get close to someone like Simone Simons! With the song titles and lyrics the band want to provoke - which partly works -, but it looks too much like a marketing tool... Beside that Lady Angellyca should work with a vocal coach on her English pronouncation! On Larmes et Roses the guitars are as aggressive as a tamed lion... But Lady Angellyca sounds better in French, perhaps she should consider French instead of English... To me she sounds cold, almost sterile... This isn't touching me at all!
For gothic metal fans this album is not heavy enough and sound to poppy... If you are looking for dark pop, then give it a try.
