Force Of Evil

Force Of Evil
(Escape Music - 2004)

If you put the CD in the play and haven't took a look at the line-up then you will first think of Mercyful Fate with a 'normal' singer. An that image isn't that wrong then this is the side-band of Mercyful Fate guitarists Hank Sherman and Michael Denner, the drums are played by Bjarne T. Holm and King Diamond bassist Hal Patino. So, this is the Mercyful Fate / King Diamond band with a different singer. The Danish chose Iron Fire singer Martin Steene, a fellow countryman. In my opinion Steene is doing much better then on the Iron Fire albums - which were okay, but nothing special. Sure, this lacks the magic of master King Diamond. Highlights are Misery Man, Under The Blade and Demonized. The band is working with counterpart vocals at Misery Man and that remind me of Savatage who made that a trademark for the Savatage sound, but Force Of Evil can't competed with the Americans. The track Hell On Earth is influenced by Judas Priest and here Mr. Steene also tries the high notes. Also Samhain and Eye Of The Storm are on the positive side of the albums balance. At all this is interesting for fans of heavy metal and for fans of Mercyful Fate and King Diamond who want to kill the time between the bands releases. Not a killer, but more then a filler.
