First Signal

First Signal
(Frontiers Records - 2010)

Harem Scarem singer Harry Hess is back with First Signal. Since Harem Scarem disbanded their fans were hoping for a reunion of the Hogtown boys and now Hess tries to fill the spot. He teamed up with Pink Cream 69 bassist and producer Dennis Ward.
The opener is called This City and with this catchy rocker they will convince hard rock fans easily. It's an ear catcher! And you'll soon find you singing along. Eric Ragno opens up When You Believe, the keyboard leads into an up-tempo track and a typical Harem Scarem song. Great vocal performance. Part Of Me and Crazy are balladesque rock songs which carry the vibe of the late 80's glam metal. Crazy is a touching ballad, but both songs manage to bring back the late 80's sound and sound modern at the same time. Goodbye To The Good Time has a dash of Southern rock. Very cool!
After the title track First Signal they offer another balladesque track, Feels Like Love This Time kicks off with acoustic guitar and reminds me a bit of Great White... With Yesterdays Rain they present a classic rock tune, reminds me a bit of Bad English at the opening passage - and I love Bad English. Great guitar play and expressive vocals make this one a highlight. The closer is Naked Desire, a dark rocker which will win you over right away. The darkest tune on First Signal, and I would have liked to hear more stuff like that and This City. But well...
Harry Hess is back with First Signal and hard rock fans and Harem Scarem lovers shouldn't waste a minute and get the album right now!
