Before The Blackened Sky

Before The Blackened Sky
(self-released - 2009)

Euphoreon is a band project from New Zealand and was started by Matt Summerville - and that's all I know about them. But the music is what counts, so let's talk about the music!
Opening up with Starnight Rider Euphoreon start slowly into the song, but soon it's time to speed up. A catchy guitar melody can hook you up, the harsh vocals build a counter part to the guitar melody. Personally I would prefer different vocals, but that's simply a matter of taste. Musically there are influences of the Scandinavian scene audible - e.g. references to Wintersun and Ensiferum. With When Dead Skies Dwell they present another tune which combines symphonic elements, epic sounds with harsh vocals. The refrain has a catchy melody, unfortunately you hardly understand the vocals. So, if it hooks you up, you can only hum the melody... The keyboard leads out of the tune... And with the title track you get the closer. They start full force into Before The Blackened Sky, the song has a different dynamic... Even if the ingredients are the same. In my opinion the best track of the demo... The sound in general is quite good, even if the drums could have more punch... But that's something you can easily change next time.
You can check Euphoreon out at their MySpace or download this 3-track demo from FreeMetalAlbums.
