The End

The End
(Napalm Records - 2010)

Ereb Altor is a project of the two members of the Swedish doom metal band, Isole. Here they go under the pseudonyms of Mats and Ragnar and it is seemingly their aim to carry on the style of music crafted by Quorthon in his later days. This band was actually formed in 1990 but didn't release anything until 2003 and in 2008 they released their first album - By Honour – to much critical acclaim.
Those who are fans of Ereb Altor will know exactly what to expect from this, their second full-length album. For those new to the band all you have to do is imagine Viking metal-era Bathory with more talented (yet not necessarily more passionate) singing and a cleaner production.
The songs on this album are wonderfully majestic and a fitting tribute to the works of the late Quorthon. The musicianship is quality throughout and, as mentioned above, it is probably easier to get into than Bathory's albums due to the better singing and production. I love the Nordland albums and, for me, The End is a great album that gives more of the same. I think Quorthon would approve.
