Time Of Despair

Time Of Despair
(Spikefarm Records - 2002)

This is the third full-length album of the Finnish Entwine which is again recorded at Astia Studios with producer Anssi Kippo. The cover artwork is in shades of beige, but the music is still dark! Many will heard the first time about the sextet when their last album Gone hit the stores. Time Of Despair is continuing this musical way, even if The Pit shows some electronic sounds which just be added to the gothic metal of Entine. a track which will be played at the clubs like their last single New Dawn... And probably make it to the club charts. But there are more emotional, balladesque tracks like Safe In A Dream. Beside there are more rocking tunes, but always a little melancholic and dark. The voice of singer Mika Tauriainen fits perfectly to the melancholic sounds and it seems that he really live trough the emotions. You can feel his pain and agony, his anger and his fear...
Musically there is no big change, just little things here and there which probably are related to the new guitarist Jaaniähkönen. And soon the band will proof outside Finland their live abilities, meanwhile listen to this album! They are on their way to the top, even if this album isn't their masterpiece. But close to the ultimate gothic metal album! Buy it!!!!

Time Of Despair

Time Of Despair
(Century Media - 2002)

Musically high class gothic metal is what the Finnish sextet Entwinw present on their new album Time Of Despair. The 9 bittersweet and charismatic compositions - with some HIM attitude - is what the dark rockers from Entwine offer and they are able to convince even a true metal fan like me and not just fans of avant-garde! Melodic, atmospheric tracks like The Pit, Until The End, Stream Of Life and Nothing Left To Say which gives you goosebumps documenting their abilities and make you forget that Entwine are following the trail of HIM, but they don't have their class.... It's a pity!

Gone

Gone
(Century Media - 2001)

Another Finnish band is on the way to conquer the metal world, perhaps not just the metal world.... The quintet is interesting for fans of Charon, HIM (but they are not so poppy), Sentenced (not as dark as them).... Singer Mika Tauriainen seems to be influenced by non-metal singers which gives a band a different sound. Gone is their second release, but the first outside Finland. On their debut The Treasures Within Hearts were recorded with a different singer and bassist, I hope this line-up will be stable, coz Gone is a highlight of this genre in 2001!
The album was recorded at the Astia A-Studio with Anssi Kippo who worked with Children Of Bodom and Sinergy in the past. It got mastered at the famous Finnvox Studio by Mika Jussila (Children Of Bodom, Stratovarius, Nightwish, etc.) The single New Dawn entered the Finnish charts and with the support of their new business partners (Century Media licensed the album), they can follow the way of Ville Valo & HIM!
Recommendations: Snow White Suicide, Closer (My Love), New Dawn and Thru The Darkness.
