Modern Rivalry

Modern Rivalry
(Nightmare Records - 2010)

DrawCard is a band from Down Under, that much I can tell you. And the album Modern Rivalry was self-released by the band in 2009 and now is published by Nightmare Records. The Durkin brothers and their mates present 14 tracks on Modern Rivalry, musically they can be described as modern hard rock, fans of bands like Disturbed, 3 Doors Down, Staind, Stone Sour, etc. should dig their sound.
They kick off with Waking Up, a catchy rocker. At Back Someday they switch between slow melodic passages and riff-based rock parts. More rock based and with a punky touch they present Running For Their Lives. At It's On they add some metallic riffs which adds heaviness and even give it an aggressive touch. They add some other sound elements and the tune almost gets a screamo track. Somehow their mix sounds familiar and that's the main problem. The guys deliver a decent performance, but they can't add something new, even if they push boundaries a bit. The closer is an acoustic ballad called Waiting For The Moment which was recorded live in the studio. And this one shows that DrawCard have more to offer. The acoustic tune is more intense and I would like to hear more of this stuff.
There are many bands who play this kind of music, especially in America. It seems they already made some friends in the US while touring there. If they can join the premier league, time will tell.
