Heal
(Massacre Records - 2010)
|
The German quartet Disbelief is presenting Heal, an album with some new songs, 3 cover versions and a remake plus a bonus DVD. Their way to celebrate their 20th anniversary. The 4 new tracks are a homage to bands which influenced them. The Eyes Of Horror is a thrashy track, but the following tracks will steam roll you with a heavy groove and deathly precision. Isolation is a fast one while The Last Force: Attack! is a slow, but deadly attack. Certainty Of Reality is a groove monster - and deadly. Then it's time for the cover versions! The first in line is King Diamond's Welcome Home which is heavier and due to the growls sounds quite different. The Crimson Glory tune Red Sharks offers melodic guitar lines, Karsten 'Jagger' Jäger's growls work well, but for me his attempt to add melodic vocal lines fails. But I confess, I like Crimson Glory a lot and so have my problems with this cover version. I admit that the guitar work is great, it's mainly the vocals which won't work for me. |

The German doom death metal veterans Disbelief are celebrating their 20th anniversary with their new album Heal which is also a special thanks to their fans. On Heal you'll find 8 songs, 4 new ones, 3 cover versions and a re-recorded one. The 'old' one is a new, more intense version of the title track off their 2002 release Shine, the cover versions are songs from Killing Joke (Love like Blood), King Diamond (Welcome Home) and Crimson Glory (Red Sharks). The cover versions were overdone and now have the Disbelief sound trademarks - and so they sound different and very cool. Jagger's deep, emotional voice gives the songs a different edge. The new songs show their admiration for bands like Slayer, Bolt Thrower, Crowbar, Death - combined with the well-known Disbelief sound. Fans won't regret to spend money on this disk, coz the 4 tracks are just great. Additionally they offer a DVD with live footage of several shows and the whole set of Walpurgis Metal Days 2009. |
Shine
(Massacre Records - 2002)

Shine is the fourth release of the German quintet and they are continuing what they started with Worst Enemy, their last years output. They present their death / extreme metal on a very high level, they have their own sound... Identity. Singer Karsten Jäger can be compared with every shouter in this genre! A very interesting track is The Decline which is different to the rest of the tracks and in my opinion one of the best they've done yet! But most tracks are full of brutal sounds which are at the same time very groovy, but Karstens extreme vocals make them mean! This is the perfect album to break into the major league of extreme metal! And at the same time they proof that it ain't necessary to have big names producing. Well done by Heinz Hess and Tommy Schmitt! |
