It's kinda like a recipe... Take some Iced Earth and add a dash Blind Guardian, then give it some time to develop.
Demons And Wizards is the result of this experiment of Mr. Jon Schaffer (mastermind and guitarist of the Americans) and Hansi Kürsch (vocalist and bassist of the Krefeld-based metal band). Usually you become friends while working together, this time it was the other way around. They know each other for years and decided to work together and this is the result of the creative cooperation. On this album Mr. Schaffer plays bass and Mr. Kürsch concentrates on the vocal part. The line-up is completed by famous producer Jim Morris on guitar and on drums Mark Prater who worked with Iced Earth in the past.
The album contains a dozen songs which last almost an hour; influences of their main bands are obvious, but the result is a decent mixture of the heavy sounds which made Iced Earth successful and which made them rise, then add the bombastic sound of the Germans and voilà!
Lyrically they deal again with some fantasy world, but in the sad reality of these days this is welcome.
Due to the amount of fans of both bands there will be quite some interest in this project and so they think about playing a few shows in Europe... To play some festivals. I guess this possibility will make some fans restless....
Beside that it seems that they already think about a follow-up and if that can keep the quality level, it's fine with me.
So, Schaffer & Kürsch didn't create something brand-new, but combined their talents. Songs which are straight ahead as well as balladesque songs are on this disc. Variety vs. boredom - experiment successful finished!
