Beyond The Pale

Beyond The Pale
(MDD Records - 2011)

Then it finally came, the 4th full-length CD from the German death metal band Dementia. Their material is well-organized, it springs into the listeners ears with so much elegance as it can be from a band who serve the typical death metal qualities as massive growls and speedy earsplitting headache bringing blood from the speakers. But apart from that generalization this stands for just the opposite of what normally could be expected from this genre. Here we get 8 songs of melodic, well-composed stuff that gets you in a good mood, with classical and often symphonic guitar work topped up with fine keyboards. To Decay has surprisingly melodic guitar elegance all through the composition, Your Antecedence brings a very interesting keyboard sequence to an already splendid creative sound, and the song A Bunch Of Laments overflows with genius and powerful guitar wars between the two guitarist, this gives a warm and soft atmosphere to the whole album.
This CD is very abnormal from what is usually heard in the death metal world, so if you're interested in brutal death metal, you can see this as an abstraction, but if you're into melodic hardcore then you will find this new Dementia album surprisingly different from what you normally serve your CD-player with.
