Second Honeymoon

Second Honeymoon
(YesterRock - 2012)

I don't recall when or where I heard Craaft for the first time, but I remember that it was a big thing that they opened for Bon Jovi in 1988 - at least in Germany. Support at that tour was Lita Ford, don't know why I missed Craaft's performance, but well...

Craaft was founded by Klaus Luley after he left Tokyo, a few years later they presented the self-titled debut in 1986 and with Second Honeymoon they were ready to conquer the hard rock scene - but it didn't happen. For the opener Run Away they did a video and so some might remember this one. The keyboard-laden Twisted Up All Inside is a treat to all fans of the late 80's hard rock - and make one wonder why this album wasn't their breakthrough, especially as they had a big label on their side. The power ballad Jane was their other single, for me a bit too bombastic. I prefer the piano-based Don't You Know What Love Can Be where the band steps back and gives singer Klaus Luley more space - at the first half. Then it becomes a power ballad with big backings. Beside that I always preferred their rockers... Songs like Running On Love, Hey Babe and Are You Ready To Rock.

The re-release is remastered and got spiced up with 3 bonus tracks which fans of the German rockers should welcome, coz it's 3 songs they demoed in 1987! With Long, Long Time they present the first demo track and it shows that this song could have made it onto the album. It's definitely not a filler. Break Away isn't as strong in my opinion, but still a decent one. Last but not least you get Take It Easy, and that's a real ear catcher!

Fans of Klaus Luley's voice and of Craaft won't hesitate to get a copy of this one, but I can recommend it to every fan of late 80's hard rock. So, if you don't have this album in your collection, it's time to change it. Now!
