ColdSpell are from Sweden and present melodic heavy metal in the Scandinavian variety. The band was founded in 2005 by R.A.W. guitarist Michael Larsson, they released their debut album Infinite Stargaze in 2009 and now they are back - Out From The Cold.
The opener Heroes is a riff-based rocker which make me think of bands like Treat, Skagarack, Stage Dolls and Fate as they sound a bit 80's like... Singer Niklas Swedentorp powerful, melodic vocals will soon hook you up and make you sing along. Okay, towards the end the line "We're heroes of the new world" is repeated a bit too often... Keyboarder Matti Eklund is using the Hammond sound to give songs a special atmosphere, but the songs are powerful and guitar-driven.
Run For Your Life will enchant you with the first spin and back in the days this would have been a smash hit. After 2 rockers they present a more balladesque tune called One In A Million. But it isn't a ballad! It's a riff-based melodic rocker, heavier than the same titled song of Trixter. The hook of Six Feet Under is infectious! Somehow this tune sounds familiar, but I can't fathom it. Save Our Souls has a melancholy note... The following The King begins slowly with acoustic guitar and vocals, but then they add a symphonic element and it becomes a power ballad, later they add heavy riffs and so the song develops into a balladesque rocker. Not overly catchy, but still enchanting. Really heavy Seven Wonders kicks off, then becomes a heavy, melodic rocker with a Hammond sound and sing along vocals. With the closer and title track Out Of The Cold they finally cross the border to melodic metal.
The songs are all very melodic, but always based in heavy riffs. Additionally they use different elements / atmospheres to make the songs differ. Actually you can pick any song to enjoy Out From The Cold! Every two songs can win you over!
