Burning Love

Burning Love
(Mean Time Music - 2012)

It's been awhile since the last Cannon album, but now they are back with Burning Love, their 4th album.

Guardian Pipes is an intro with bag pipes and a bell tolling. It leads into Guardian Of The Night, a catchy rocker which shows references to Accept / U.D.O. (vocals). The title track offers 80's like backings and isn't as heavy as e.g. Accept, but will hook you up right away. Oliver Krueger's guitar is more hard rock-ish... The fast rocker Hands Up With The Devil make me think of Mydra, even if Cannon is less poppy. If Mat Rein Jaehnke's voice wouldn't be so raspy, it would sound even more melodic... more hard rock-ish. The balladesque Goodbye couldn't really get me, but that's just me... Luckily they speed up for Life, another catchy riff-based rocker. Bachrock is a guitar piece inspired by Bach's compositions. But then they get back to guitar-driven heavy metal with Holy Devil. An atmospheric opening passage has Run For Your Life, but soon heavy riffs take over - and again Cannon merge together hard rock and heavy metal elements. And they stay on their chosen path for the last two tracks.

Fans of German heavy metal with an 80's hard rock edge should check out Burning Love!

Metal Style

Metal Style
(Metal Mayhem Music - 2008)

The German band Cannon is around for about 20 years and delivered a couple of hard rock albums, now the title of the new album indicates that they got heavier... It's called Metal Style and the opening tune Heavy Metal Style shows them with heavy guitar riffs and an metallic edge - but also somehow bit 80's... Influences of Judas Priest and Iron Maiden as well as Accept are audible. At Into The Fire singer Mat Rein Jaehnke reminds me a bit of Mat Sinner as well as Udo Dirkschneider - and the chorus with its backing vocals is also reminding me of Sinner in the late 80's. Somehow Cannon's music is quite 80's and songs like Out In The Streets remind me of Sinner back then, which isn't bad at all, coz I liked Sinner back then - and I still do. Cannon isn't presenting something new, but the songs are well played and have some catchy hooks. In the late 80's they could have caught some attention with Metal Style, but these days it won't be easy. On the other hand their are still a lot fans of the 80's heavy metal sound, and they might welcome this album... Its enjoyable... entertaining. Listen to I Bet You Win and you will know what I'm talking about. Or you check out: Waiting, Bells Of Glory or Into The Fire.
