In My Corner

In My Corner
(self-released - 2007)

Dean Boland is the guitarist of Random Damage and this EP is added to Random Damage's Human Flytrap. The Canadian did this EP on his own - as far as I know - and even if he isn't the greatest singer, he knows his ability and range.
The EP kicks off with In My Corner, a straight rocker with a catchy melody line. He somehow reminds me of Mitch Malloy... Real fun to listen to! With Too Late he changes a bit... and it has a slight 70's feeling... More mid-tempo guitar rock. And again a catchy refrain, but not as strong as the title track. With acoustic guitar the balladesque tune So Hard tries to win you. If the song would be piano-based, it could have been Joshua Kadison... Or Richard Marx... Okay, this one is a bit harder as them, but even if this song is real nice, it shows that this isn't his strong point. The drums and riffing of Divine Or Evil shows right away, that this isn't another ballad. Even if this isn't a real rocker, it's riff-based and Dean also adds a cool solo. Last, but not least a ballad! Only You is a somehow a typical ballad, but shows again that he's best when he rocks! So please, more rock tunes!
