Freedom To The Slave Makers

Freedom To The Slave Makers
(AFM Records - 2011)

Betzefer is a band from Israel which was founded in 1998. Their first EP was released in 2001 (Pitz Aachabar), Some Tits, But No Bush followed in 2003 and with Freedom To The Slave Makers they present their 2nd full-length album. In 2005 Roadrunner Records released the EP New Hate and the album Down Low.
A heavy groove leads you into Bestseller, the opening track. The track offers speed changes and the varying vocals of Avital Tamir next to melodic guitar leads by Matan Cohen. At Backstage Blues they change a bit, the track is aggressive but a bit more melodic. This time you find reminiscences to traditional heavy metal and thrash metal in their mix, but you also get a heavy groove. The biography labels them as hardcore, but I think groove metal is more appropriate - even if there is more in their sound. Songs like Diamond Director and Nothing But Opinions shows off their influences, but without loosing the bands identity. For Doomsday they did a video, even if it's not the most representative track of the album...

Betzefer show a variety I miss sometimes, they show their influences without overdoing it. And interesting album for every metal fan who likes groove metal and open-minded thrash metal fans.
